We have used the Pivothead Durango glasses on a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) who was inserted into a training area using a helicopter. The Pivothead glasses recorded the events that the JTAC experienced from his viewpoint in 1080p high-definition. The Pivothead system is almost completely unobtrusive and does not interfere with dismounted operations as we have demonstrated.

Underscoring the trend, a first-of-its-kind booth dedicated to “cutting-edge eyewear technologies” was at the International Vision Expo, a trade conference last month in New York. Among the featured companies were Pivothead, which makes $299 sunglasses that have a high-definition camera; Zeal Optics, which said it had seen strong demand for its goggles with an embedded video camera; and 4iiii, a Canadian company that makes sunglass attachments for athletes.

SPRINGVILLE, Alabama -- Check out these cool new sunglasses that allow simple video and still photo capture with a tiny camera built into the nose bridge. The video camera shoots 1080 30 fps, 720 60 and 30 fps video and the still camera shoots 8 megapixel still photos. Memory capacity is 8 GB on board.

The glasses are very comfortable and stay in place. The lens are glass and can be worn as safety and shooting glasses. Several different interchangeable lenses come with the kit. Photo gray, mirror blue, dark gray and clear came with the kit I received. Once you learn the correct way to change the lenses out, it's fairly easy.

Controls are simple to operate. They consist of a on/off button and a toggle switch. When used in various combinations, they control all functions of video and photo capture and resolution settings.
